Fredericksburg, TX · Gillespie County · The Texas Hill Country
If you've been hearing something in the attic at night or finding droppings in the pantry, we'd be glad to come out and take a look. We've provided rodent control for homes, businesses and outbuildings in Fredericksburg and Gillespie County since 1979. We bait for rats and mice on an ongoing plan. The bait stations are placed around the property and checked on a schedule, so the problem is kept under control rather than coming back.
Rats and mice are among the most destructive pests in the Hill Country. They gnaw on wires, pipes, water hoses, doors, floors, walls, clothing and furniture. A chewed wire or pipe can cause a fire or a flood. They also eat and contaminate food and carry diseases that are hazardous to people and pets. Once they've found a food source on your property, they'll keep coming back to it, so you want someone who will find where they're active and keep them under control.
Hill Country Pest Control has been family owned and operated in Fredericksburg since 1979, and we have the knowledge and experience to get rats and mice under control in homes and businesses across Gillespie County. We'll come out, inspect the property, and place bait stations where the rodents are active. The stations are then checked on a schedule.

Our rodent baiting service covers homes, commercial properties, barns and outbuildings across Fredericksburg and Gillespie County. It runs as its own ongoing service rather than as part of a residential plan. When you call, please tell us what you've been seeing or hearing, and we'll be glad to come out and take a look.

Mouse pest control and rat pest control for the house start with an inspection to find where the rodents are active. We place bait stations around the home and check them on a schedule. If we see an entry point, we'll point it out to you. Rats and mice also bring fleas in with them. If you've noticed fleas as well, please see our flea control service.
Request an Inspection
Rodents are the most common request we get from commercial properties. We set up rodent baiting for businesses on an ongoing schedule, either on its own or alongside a commercial pest control program. Visits are scheduled around your business hours.

Barns, sheds and workshops give rats and mice shelter. Stored feed is a food source they'll keep coming back to. We place bait stations in and around outbuildings on the same ongoing schedule as the house. Please tell us what's on the property when you call, and we'll give you our recommendation.

We inspect first and place the bait stations where the rats and mice are actually traveling and feeding, inside the house or out, so the bait reaches them.
On a rodent control plan, the stations are checked on a schedule. That ongoing attention is what keeps rats and mice under control instead of letting them come back.
Hill Country Pest Control has handled rats and mice in Fredericksburg-area homes, businesses and outbuildings since 1979. We know where they get in and where the bait stations need to go, and we'll tell you what we find on your property.

Rats and mice stay out of sight, so most Gillespie County homeowners find the evidence before they see the animal. If you've noticed any of the following, it's worth having the property inspected.
Small dark droppings along the walls, in the pantry, under the sink or in a drawer. Where you find them tells us where the rodents are traveling.
Gnawing on a wire or a pipe is the sign to take most seriously, because a chewed wire can cause a fire and a chewed pipe can cause a flood.
Dark, greasy smears along a baseboard or the edge of an opening, left where their bodies rub against the wall along the same route.
Running or squeaking sounds in the attic or the ceiling after dark. Roof rats live in attics and roof spaces, so this is often how people first find out they have them.
Footprints and tail marks in dust along a wall, or a worn path through the grass along the foundation outside.
If you're not certain what you're looking at, please take a photo and call us at (830) 997-5080.
The two rodents that get into Hill Country homes are the roof rat and the house mouse. The inspection tells us which one you have and where the bait stations need to go. As the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service puts it in Managing Rats and Mice, “House rats and mice eat and contaminate human and animal food, and they damage and destroy property.”

Roof rats live in attics and roof spaces. They climb onto the roof along tree branches, vines and pipes and get into the attic from there. If the noise you're hearing is overhead, roof rats are the likely cause.

House mice come in near the ground, through a gap under a door or an opening around a pipe, and settle in wherever there's food close by. If you need a mouse exterminator in Fredericksburg, give us a call and we'll come out and take a look.

Rodent control in Fredericksburg follows a simple three-step process, from your first call to the ongoing schedule.

Tell us what you've been seeing or hearing and where on the property, and we'll get you on the schedule.

The technician looks over the house, the grounds and any outbuildings to find where the rats or mice are active and how they're getting in. You'll have our recommendation and a quote before any work begins.

We place bait stations where the rodents are active and come back on a schedule to check them. That is what keeps the problem under control.

Rodents are handled with baiting on an ongoing plan, not as a single visit. Rats and mice keep coming back to a food source, so bait stations checked on a schedule are what keep them under control. Rodent control is a separate service from a residential pest control plan. Scorpions, spiders and mosquitoes are listed on our other pests we treat page.
We start with an inspection to find where they're active and how they're getting in, then place bait stations in those areas and check them on a schedule. Rodent baiting runs as an ongoing plan with monitoring rather than a one-time treatment. Rats and mice keep coming back to a food source, so checking the stations on a schedule is what keeps them under control.
No, we don't do exclusion or sealing work. If we see an entry point during the inspection or on a scheduled visit, we'll point it out to you so you can have it closed up. That is worth doing alongside the baiting.
No, we don't set traps or do wildlife removal. Our rodent control service is baiting, with bait stations placed on the property and checked on a schedule. If the animal turns out to be something other than a rat or a mouse, we'll tell you.
The location of the activity is the best indication. Roof rats live in attics and roof spaces, so noise overhead at night usually means rats. House mice come in near the ground and stay close to food, so droppings in the kitchen usually mean mice. If you aren't sure, we'll tell you when we inspect.
The most common signs are droppings, gnawing on wires, pipes or food packaging, greasy smears along the walls, tracks in dust, and running or squeaking sounds in the walls or the ceiling at night. If you've found any of these, it's worth having the property inspected.
The bait sits inside enclosed bait stations rather than out in the open. Every structural pest control business in Texas is licensed by the Texas Department of Agriculture. Our license number is TPCL 5395. Please tell us before the visit if there are children, pets or livestock on the property, and the technician will show you where the stations are.
Rats and mice are mostly active at night, which is why the sounds in the attic start after dark. Seeing one in the daytime is a good reason to have the property inspected.
Roof rats live in attics and roof spaces and climb in along branches, vines and pipes. We look at the roofline and the attic as well as the ground around the house, and place bait stations where they're active. The stations are checked on a schedule, and we'll point out any branches that are giving them a way onto the roof.
The most useful thing is to remove what's drawing them in. Rats and mice keep coming back to a food source, so we recommend keeping food, pet food and feed in sealed containers. Keeping branches and vines trimmed back from the roof and having any gaps around the foundation, doors and pipes closed up also helps. Beyond that, an ongoing baiting plan is what keeps them under control.
It depends on several factors, such as the size of the property, whether there are outbuildings to cover, and how far the problem has gone, so we need to gather some information from you before we can give you a quote. Give us a call and describe what you've been seeing. We'll make our recommendation and explain what it will cost before we do anything else.
